Don’t Say That! Instead...

11 Jan 2017

Words matter. Don’t say “commit” or “tried to commit”. Don’t give details of your attempt or someone else's attempt or death. Just say “I attempted,” "they attempted," or "they died of suicide," and leave it at that. Even if you're not in the media, read this one page instruction sheet on Reporting on Suicide. It gives basic info and helps everyone not make a horrible situation worse.

Can't even count how many times I've posted, emailed, messaged, and printed this info. At some point I feel like it would become common knowledge... but sadly it hasn't yet.
