SOS Loss Day

22 Nov 2014

Heartbeat of Grand Junction is hosting the National Suicide Survivors Day on November 22, 2014 at the Mesa County Public Library in the Mesa Room.

Survivor Day is not about awareness. It's about the experiences and issues unique to those of us who have lost loved ones to self-harm. Other people don't get it and they don't have to. It's not for them. The point of this day is not to wallow in grief or morose reflection. The point is to keep ourselves alive. Nobody knows precisely why, but people who lose loved ones to suicide are at much higher risk ourselves. I suspect it has to do with blame and guilt as much as anything else, but I can't prove it. We have to continue to communicate our hope and determination to find a cure. My hope is that someday we will have found a cure for self-accosting thoughts a behavior and survivor day will be a thing of the past.
