Anyone who crushes poor people makes fun of their Maker.
But anyone who is kind to those in need honors God.
- Proverbs 14:31 (NIRV)
Part of the grief I've felt over the past seven years stems from the hard-heartedness of my fellow Christians. My daughter was bullied by Christians on Campus kids in high school. She was verbally assaulted at her weakest moment by a relative who claims salvation but is really just a sanctimonious jerk. I've stopped referring to myself as a Christian and returned to my 1970's moniker Jesus Freak. I have been too broken by the church's deliberate lack-of-response to the suicide crisis, by systemic cruelty to the suffering, and by the prosperity doctrine that's become mainstream. I love the radical rabbi's example and teachings on how to treat those less fortunate than myself, and to save my faith I had to turn away from the buildings with the expensive crosses on top.
