Pain, Depression, Arthritis, Diabetes...

26 Feb 2013

Know what I'm going to say next time someone proudly puffs up and says "I have ____, but I don't take any meds for it"? AREN'T YOU JUST SO SPECIAL!

Here I was ranting about the anti-medication movement. I'm not necessarily pro-medication, I'm just anti-stupidity. MAYO clinic has a huge list of uses for antidepressants besides depression, such as neuropathy caused by shingles and diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and spinal cord injury. I have family members who take medicine MS, chronic pain, and depression every single day. I take a daily medicine to keep hemiplegic migraines at bay. I also swim, walk, get accupuncture, rest, and eat well. What's it to anyone else how we choose to manage these medical challenges? (Clearly I'm still  ranting.) I look forward to the day when I'm no longer outraged by stigma - when I can respond calmly with compassion for the ignorant.
