Holidays After

29 December 2012
"I know that every colored light, every piece of tinsel, every canned Christmas carol piped through department store speakers, and every well-meaning person wishing you a merry Christmas made you want to scream - Bobbi Emel

For the first few years I grinned and bore the Holidays. I tried to participate despite my brokenness, but I never have liked the holidays so my efforts were exhausting to me and others in my family. What was always a chore became a grim trial for me. At some point - maybe two or three years ago - my husband and I decided to celebrate only with our immediate family. Just the kids and grandkids. This may be the healthiest decision we have made in more than seven years.
