In Our OWN Voices

This was when I was still under the delusion that everyone in my family was interested in becoming involved in mental health advocacy. Since then I've learned that most are not. For a long time - probably a few years - I had resentment about this, but then I talked to a mom who's kid died of cancer. She said that people simply have their own lives, and are living their own dreams, and they work on their own avenues of advocacy. Also since then this niece has become an amazing advocate for children with autism, like her son, and is teaching preschool in a special needs classroom. Life goes on.
