Tipper Gore and the PMRC

Today I'm working on my dissertation - specifically trying to figure out how to alert parents to the obscene quantity of juvenile fiction books that describe suicide methods. I feel overwhelmed and underprepared for this task. Well, not the researching and writing aspect; just the "what the heck do I do with this information?!" aspect.

My goal began as a way to offer parents and children the opportunity to self-critique children's literature with an eye toward fostering resilience-building discussions. I started out going by the media guidelines for reporting on suicide. But holey moley I don't think that it's moral or ethical for me to wait...

I'm wondering if I should alert CDC Violence Prevention, or AAS, or AFSP.... or all three? Honestly, I have no clue what to do about this.  I guess the first thing to do is to simply share the link to my data sheets with the "powers that be."

Also, I am going to contact Tipper Gore somehow. She did fabulous child protection work with the PMRC back in the day. Ok, doing that now.
